Hiking trails exist in the downtown National Park area and can be enjoyed by all. While there, you can also
visit the downtown area which is widely known for its thermal baths and Historic buildings.
For the adventureous, the Ouachita Forest offers some of the best hiking and backpacking trails in the nation.
The trails are well maintained by the U.S. Forest Service, State Park personnel, and local hiking and biking organizations.
The major trails have trailheads and are well marked.
Maps are available at the US Forest Service office, the Ranger District offices, and here at
Ouachita Outdoors. My favorite trail is Hunt's Loop (4 miles) located on HWY 7 North, and, 20 miles north of town, you'll
also find another of my favorites, the Little Blakely Trail system, located on Lake Ouachita near the State Park,
Eagle Rock Loop at the Little Missouri Fall/Camp Albert Pike area and the Ouachita Trail the runs from Pennicle State Park just west of Little Rock to Talihena
Oklahoma. Trail difficultlies and water access will vary so plan your trips properly.
Trail Books by Tim Earnst are a good way to start your trip and will help guide you on a outdoor adventure you won’t soon forget.
